It handles Unicode or any supported Java Encoding fine. For the record, I've been using EUC_JP, but I should switch everything over to Unicode. (Currently the server only supports 1 encoding type. If I had support for switching encoding types per file, I would have moved to Unicode a while ago...)
The problem there is that the font I told GMAO to use for the translator notes did not have any Japanese characters. I usually have the translator note be a font that has Japanese text, but I must not have been checking that then... (Strange, because I thought that I have always had the font be MS_Mincho or something, but whatever.)
