It does mention something about '2 in 1 editions' in that article, I've never seen that phrase used before, maybe they're doubling them up 2 volumes into 1 (super fat) book releaser to get them out quicker hence the higher price?

Either way, I'll be paying $18 + whatever import duty fees & costs (etc) on top to get hold of them in the UK. Bah. But I'm still gonna buy them :D
