I was looking to replace my Kami Kaze and Beserk Scanlations (Friggin HD crash) and stumbled here. I wasn't gonna D/L the series until I saw Oh! Great's artwork, which is jaw dropping and from reading posts it seems that the story kicks just as much arse. Just wanted to thank all involved for sharing something they care so much about.
Lates.

Not to be insulting, but I personally don't see a really great story in Tenjo Tenge, it looks like softcore porn with martial arts incorporated into it to me. Anyway, Berserk is licensed by Darkhorse and Digital Manga (They have the rights to the first three volumes.) and even better, they'll be publishing it unflipped, UNEDITED, and even leaving in the Japanese sound effects. You can find Kamikaze on IRC if you look hard enough.
I've read 24 volumes of Berserk and it's not THAT great, to be perfectly honest. The fight scenes are awful more the half the time time; you have no idea what's going on and the mangaka isn't very good at making his characters actions clear.
The story is probally the best part, but at the same time it's the worst part, since it falls back into it's own trappings. Every fight is Gutts getting beat up untill he goes "Berserk" and beats down everyone while all the other characters stand there like useless gits. I agree alot of the other plot is fun, but it is pretty equal with TT most of the time. I actually prefer TT because it gets just as dark at times, but it always finds a way to lighten itself up without looking silly. Also, in the newest chapters, the mangaka has turned alot of it into a D&D style romp instead of what it started as.

I think Tenjo shows a pretty good understanding of a lot of martial theory. While some of the stuff is just silly, the concepts behind them are actually somewhat insightful, I think. Just for example, the whole 'spirit' thing. Spirit plays a huge role in the manga, which is why a little guy like Nagi can throw down with the big guys. Similarly, many martial artists cultivate their spirit, or qi, to attain a higher proficiency that training the body alone can't accomplish. There are lot of other things like this in Tenjo that pop up... the emotions that run through you in a fight, what it means to be strong.. all of these things are prevalent in the martial mind.Shishio-sama wrote:Not to be insulting, but I personally don't see a really great story in Tenjo Tenge, it looks like softcore porn with martial arts incorporated into it to me. As for Berserk.. ugh. I don't understand why people like that series at all.
