I'm willing to mirror but need some help

Post by omen42 »

Hey I'm just found TT and it's now my favorite manga period

I'm willing to mirror the whole thing but I have almost no net/web page knowledge. So if someone would help me set up the mirror. Also I olny have the first three volumes downloaded and I can't seem to get the bit torrent to work. If you want to help me just e-mail me a "silentkatana@evilemail.com" and make the subject tenjo tenge

Also I know this is totally off topic but dose anyone know where i can find translations of Hellsing (yes I know it's been licensed) But I just bought the orginals and can olny find translations of the first volume.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

My names Chris and I'm "Mostly Harmless"

Setting up a homepage is a very easy thing to do, yet unless you know exactely what you want to get, it may take some time.

You need to know:
1. how much space you'll need
2. how many people will visit each day
3. what do you want to put on your web page (html, asp, php, cgi...etc)
4. how much do you want to pay for it
Have these information in your head before starting a search for web hosting service.

For your purpose of file hosting, only the basic service will be needed.
I think it'll come up to be less than $10 per month.
Most web hosting companies will have a well written tutorial you can follow to set up.
And finding a hosting company will not be a problem.
There are thousands out there...
Good luck. 8)

Here's a good site to help you start your search.
http://thewhir.com/

Don't be overwhelmed by the flood of information.
Just try to look for a service provider with a large 'traffic cap' and cheap price.
Good luck! :D

im with freeservers.com and they totally SUCK
so if you had to choose dont go for this dinky site (i'm stuck with them till the end of this year *Sigh*)

my advise is to try setting up one of those free webhost... to get a 'feel'. and it risk-free! that's how i learn to do this webdesigning stuff. i suggest try tripod.com.

also if you have microsoft frontpage... you can learn stuff easily.
also try w3schools.com to know the html basics

oh please please please please make the pain stop.

learn to write your own HTML. Frontpage is a scourge that needs to be stopped.

I do all the sites on mangatranslation.com with emacs. And I use CSS so they display nice on every browser. Except IE still doesn't understand PNGs with the alpha channel yet.

Haha, don't hate the FrontPage program.
I first learned HTML through text editors but really learned to do nice formatting and my first fancy tricks through studying how FrontPage writes them.
I'd create a page in FrontPage and read it in html mode.

I agree if you compose straight through FrontPage, it's not good.
Your pages will be messy and badly organized beyond help.
But it can be an easy introduction to what you can do with html pages.
wysiswg editors are great in my opinion.

But what omen42 needs I think, is a basic ftp program.
That's about all you'll need to host some files...

Front page generates assy HTML. Use the FREE composer that comes as part of Mozilla. It is much better.

And if omen42 does not have a place to put the files to host - which it sounds like he does not - he will have to look into that first...

About as Ass as Ass gets. And I'm not talking about the Natsume Sisters kinda Ass. We're looking at Grade A Sagara Ass, but with more hair.

Handrolled HTML is best. You wouldn't want a machine-sharpened katana, would you? They're just as sharp, but it lacks class. The reccomendation to use http://w3schools.com/ is good. Personally I learned HTML by ripping off code from other folks' sites. Anywhere they have a picture, you'll find a <img src...> tag, and so forth. You can get the hang of it pretty fast if you've got some other guy's code in front of you and a list of what the tags mean.

Once you've got your noggin wrapped around the basics, take a stroll by http://alistapart.com/ for some medium to advanced applied theory, and you'll be in business. Be sure to check your code at http://validator.w3.org/ to make sure everything's kosher.

Keep in mind that's the totally anal-retentive way to do things, but hey: who knows what people will try to access your page with? Sony will probably have a web-capable cheese grater by the end of the year with wi-fi capabilities :D
