I have a question
I'm trying to scan the back cover of vol 4 but it keeps looking like shit everytime I scan it, does anyone know of a program I can use to make it smooth looking like fugu's scans.

First thing's first. Make sure the cleaing surface is clean! This might sound ridiculous, but a dirty surface can really mess up pictures.
2nd, use a highest dpi your memory and computer can handle. You can change the quality and size using an image program instead.
Finally, make sure you position it correctly. I really can't tell you how to do this; you'll have to learn this on your own.

thanks for your help guys, here is what I try to scan so far and I think I'm getting the hang of it but it still sucks compare to what I see fugu do.
if you know what I'm doing wrong give me some tips on how to fix it and do anyone know a good way of getting rid of that line with out messing up my cover.
you might have to copy and paste the link to your address bar to see it I don't think tripods like direct linking.

I scan at 300dpi. If you are scanning B&W manga type images, set your scanner to scan in greyscale. Also, it is very important to play around with the contrast, "shadow value" and "highlight value" to get white whites, and black blacks.
Other than that, you just have to play with your scanner and scanning software to see what works.
