BTW, the nice calligraphy font just didn't look good when squished down and with effects applied. Maybe I'll try again later though.

Could someone list the ranks in order so I can see where I'm at? I'm a Kouhai so is that near the bottom?

I think the ranking system goes like this.

Titles by number of postings
Yuurei -initial state
Tamashii -20 posts
Kouhai -75 posts
Doushi -150 posts
Senpai -300 posts
...

Titles by appointment
Sifu -Forum moderator. Fugu Tabetai
Bushi

Just chance. The translations are "Ghost", "Spirit", "Junior" (opposite of Senpai more or less), "equal", "superior" (senpai), ...

"Bushi" is warrior, and "Shifu" is like Master/Commander.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. The number of posts you make doesn't really have any real meaning. I did try to put a bit of effort into coming up with the ranks so they would be relevant to this forum though. (Vaugely japanese related.)

If I was a less lazy admin, I'd make a whole crapload of special ranks and give them out, but I'm lazy. I'm sure you would all rather have me translating anyway. (At some point I have to start the TJTG Special Characters pages.)

Tamashii is the coolest title in my opinion.
First of all, it's a cool word.

It's the "Spirit" character in NeoGeo classic "Samurai Spirits" series.
It doesn't mean spirit in the sense of genkiness or energetic mood; but the philosophy, the core, or the essense.

The main theme of the character is also another cool word.
If you take apart the Tamashii character, the right side becomes the main theme, "Oni" (Mean-spirited powerful demons of Japanese folklore. usually always furious about something.) and the left side is ... don't have my dictionary with me.
But the left side means "to reach" "to arise to" or "to attain".

Also, it's the only title consisting of a single character.
All other titles are two character words.

Seriously, I felt like I got demoted when I turned in to a Kouhai from Tamashii.

Again I wrote a lot of useless stuff.
