Don't know. This is a new release, not something which has previously been serialised in some magazine, so I don't think anyone knows exactly what the contents will be.

However, since it is an adult title, and judging by Oh! great's previous adult works, I think you should be prepared for some hardcore stuff

Is that when they said it was going to be available(mid-nov)? I was also thinking of getting it form them but I don't know if I want to wait till mid nov.

well it said estimated shipping would be around Oct 15 while delivery between Nov 5-29. I can way for it, so it's no rush. Hopefully I won't even have to worry about being charged til they actually get it.

I'm guessing the estimated receipt date of November is because (i) you ordered other stuff which may be released later and/or (ii) you chose the cheaper shipping option. IIRC, AJ's standard estimate of delivery time for the cheaper shipping option is about 4-5 weeks (to Australia at least). But in practice the items arrive within about 2 weeks (to Australia at least). ie the estimated delivery date may not be reliable.

I've ordered a copy (got to maintain my Oh! great collection ) but my copy is currently being held for me pending the release of other stuff in my order, so I won't get it until early October.

BTW, I'm a bit surprised Amazon Japan let you order the book. I thought AJ normally didn't ship adult material overseas.

<shrugs> didn't give me any errors (at least from what I could tell). And yea, I choose the cheaper shipping option. Look, I love Oh! Great and everything but no way in hell I'm paying 3x the cost of the book so I can get it faster.

I mean you can buy 2 Volumes of Air Gear and still have money left over for the price of Naked Star. Is it more pages, or is it that he doesn't think he going to sell as much, or it's LTD editon, or is it that you have to pay for to see freaky stuff?

I would guess just the economics of scale - you are going to sell more of the mainstream stuff, so printing and distribution costs should be less.

And people will pay more for that sort of material.

It's naturally going to cost more. Not only is it going to have less copies available for sale, as Fugu has said, but the ero genre is sort of like a niche even within the manga industry. (not that it's got a very small fanbase btw..)

It's probably harder to sell this kind of material than sports manga or something. Well, sex sells but you can count on stuff like Doraemon or Naruto to sell a hell lot more.

I don't know, but what Fugu wrote sounds reasonable. Also, I think his hentai books tend to be larger in size than his general stuff - larger in the sense that area of each page is greater (I don't know whether there'll be more pages). More paper, greater cost.

BTW, I understand the short stories in Naked Star include at least some which have previously been published elsewhere: "oneself" and "Hane" have previously been published in Zero-shiki (adult) manga anthologies; "Necroman" was previously published in two parts in Oh! great's G^3 and G^3 volume 2 doujinshi (although the artwork was in a rough form in the doujinshi - I presume/hope it's been touched up for the final version).

edit: I looked through the whole book. All I can is wow.... the quality is great as usual coming from Oh! Great but so is the printing. Thick pages with a good 5-6 color inserts plus the dustjack is pimp as hell.

btw, the perversion level on this isn't as high as I thought probably cause most of the stories are short and to the point (I guess)?

maybe in the future but probably not for awhile. No time at home to do it plus have to re-hook the scanner up to do so.

that isn't always the case - that is just a different form factor. It is often used for normal manga as well (my CapCom Gal's manga is in the larger size, for example.)

hmm, I'm a little dissappointed. Although it was published recently, Naked Star looks like a recompilation of Oh!Great's older works.

I just went through the raw (thanks to some scans :p) and I have to admit tha Oh! Great is really...great

well I never said it wasn't hardcore but.... I was expecting a lot worse so wasn't really surprised with what was in it. And seriously, not all the stories have "hardcore" stuff going on.

Off the top of my head, naked star consisted of:
- short hentai stories
- 5 or so color inserts (very nice )
- random characters sketches
- stories summaries (I think?)

oh yea, there was one story that was very different from Oh! Great usual art style. I think it was more something similar to how he draws characters SD like or something. I remember when I saw that, thought it was something different.

My favorite one (and I don't even understand it) is the girl with that bigass gun and then she has a shootout in a church. That one was cool on so many levels. Oh Great should continue that one in a seperate manga.
