But this was Maya! She's supposed to be immune to getting hurt because everyone likes her. Just kidding.

And besides, we already knew Shin would be dead at some point. Tawara just concentrates too much awesome into one person to die and even if he did, I bet he'd come back as a totally ass-kicking ghost, which would make him unbeatable. If Bob died, we'd have that whole "shounen hero avenges his dying friend" moment.

Not really. If the Dragon's Palm would be needed, Maya can always ask help from the Hotaru lady who's been treating Bob. Souichirou wouldn't really need to waste time and get it from Kagiroi.

Even Nagi and Aya had their asses semi-handed to them by Ryuuzaki. But then again, who likes Nagi and Aya anyway?

I agree that the severity of Maya's beating is intensified by the fact that she rocks. When that dude with tattoos was beating the shit out of her at school, nobody really cared, since we didn't get to love her as much as we do now yet. And Maya was a somewhat annoying punk those days too. 8)

I'm really sorry guys, but I just had a major hard drive crash and that's put me behind schedule. I really wanted to get started yesterday (takes about 2-3 days to translate assuming about an hour of translation time a day) but I've spent the past two days trying to recover the data off my hard drive. Thanks to Knoppix and rsync, it looks like I might be back in business in a few more hours (the hard drive works, but takes ages to copy anything off of it due to all the read errors.)

I will have text translations up when I get this done, but that might be a week or two since I've got to re-install my OS of choice (Fedora Core, might as well update to version 4) and migrate data over. And set up my translation environment again (it is always tough to get Japanese working on linux the first time.)

Dammit, I haven't even skimmed through the chapter yet! I think I was able to recover the Tenjo Tenge section of my hard drive though... (But I have backups of everything from 2 weeks ago, so no huge loss if not.)

While I think you're reading a little too much into that picture, yeah I see Maya being very close to death, and while I really can't see Oh! Great killing her off if what Emi did had her in a sling since vol 2, short of Asunder and Elite's Suggestion of Nagi taking the dragon palm to heal her( which for some reason I don't see happening) I see her in a bed next to Makiko and Mataza for a looong time. I'm still thinking Aya's going to see this with the dragon eye sooner or later and go help her sister. Whatever happens I still can't belive Oh! Great had Maya take such a beating :(
You're probably right (I hope), but if she can't fight what happens to the tournament?
Maya had to be the one to get beaten to a pulp, let's not forget Tenten is written like a drama(name one character who isn't broken in some way) and in a drama it's always the most beloved character who gets the worst situations, pretty much the best way to get the readers attention and interest.

As for other characters getting worst beatings, I don't think so. If you loose consciousness do to trauma to the head any paramedic will tell you that it's a live treatening situation and injuries to internal organs is much, MUCH more dangerous then external wounds...

OK, my UJ arrived. I've had the chance to read over part of the chapter proper. I was wrong about the flashback part. It was Tetsuhito telling Makiko the (anecdotal) origin of the Kagiroi family. Beware my crappy Japanese.

Seems a long time ago, the members of the oldest family in Japan were travelling somewhere, when they came across a blood red river. The colour was caused by ironsmiths dumping their iron 'dust' into the river. This general, Susa (real name unknown), for some reason then got drunk and slaughtered some of the ironsmiths and raped the daughter of the head of the ironsmith clan. Pregnant, she tried to kill herself but was stopped (either accidentally or intentionally, I'm not sure), and the child was born. It is hinted that this child founded the Kagiroi line.

At least I think that's correct.

Yeah I know what you were refering too and neither of them lost consciousness from their injuries and had people right there to help them and stop their attacker. If Tetsuhito didn't think Maya was already dead and decided to stick his sword through her chest before grabbing Reiki she would be dead. Who knows, maybe Maya was dead and Reiki somehow revived her.

Neither did Maya lose her's.

Shin, Tawara and Bob spent a lot of time in the hospital after that, while Maya keeps swinging (albeit, with Shin's supposed help).

Pretty sure it's shown to represent her going off with Mitsuomi, it was the turning point in her life that led to where she is now.

She has the same flashback when talking to Shin in a dream while visiting Makiko.

I know about the flashback in when Maya was with Makiko I have that ch. I was just wondering what significance it held in this ch.

My perefrence on Maya's turning point was... well at least I thought when you saw the image of Shin holding Reiki in kyushuu and Shin was talking to Maya (dream sequence)

That's IMO i think was Maya's turning point.

OK, finally managed to finish reading this chapter. The start is, as I mentioned, Tetsuhito telling Makiko the origins of his family to Makiko. They end up discussing a bit more about the families, and as Tetsu leaves, Makiko draws on him and tells him that as she entrusted her eye and the power within to him, he now bears great responsibility and must swear an oath never to misuse the power for his selfish desires. Tetsu than tells her the story of his birth, about how his mom drank some substance that assploded inside her (ten bucks say it was bean soup :P ), either intentionally or unknowingly, and some other things I don't get before giving her some tongue.

We then shift back to Tetsu and Maya, as she discovers the hard truth that steel and iron are useless against him. Tetsu then brags a lot about how he is the real ironman and stuff, and pounds on her. Maya desperately but unsuccessfully tries to fight back, and is beaten near death, even as the other three wait and worry at the sidelines, fearing the worst. Shin refuses to let his sister die and somehow activates Reiki. Now knowing that metal is useless against Tetsu, Maya uses her mouth to deliver him a woody that puts his eye out (I swear, these things just write themselves sometimes  ) ...

Well, maybe she thought it would be better to use her weapon against someone who was equipped with one. When Maya discovered that steel wouldn't work against Kagiroi, she was already in the thick of the fight.

just an addon to agent wax's post... makiko commented that the tetsuhito's family legend is really similar to nagi's family legend, and she wondered if all the 12 feathers had similar legends. Then tetsu said something about kago mentioning the branched out bloodlines will finally be reunited after 2000 years.

She used her hands in the last chapter. She's not hurting him any. And she couldn't use her hands to take his eye out because she was using Reiki at the same time...

Bloodlines being reunited after 2000 years, wonder how many years its been since that prophecy was made? Seems like possible foreshadowing of the gathering of all the dragon's inside Souichirou. Man, Shin just does not seem to want to stay dead. I'm almost half expecting Mana to make some sort of appearance. Hmm, Mana appearing and telling Aya that its never going to happen with Souichirou and to go for Masataka. I know, slim to none chance of that happening, poor Masataka.

I believe he's talking about the poachers on the Shogun's land who were despoiling it in order to make iron. They are the evil dragon, the shogun (Kagiroi's ancestors) the government. Perhaps I should have made that a translator note, but I thought it was clear enough...

Great job as usual Fugu.
Couple tweeks I can suggest, pg 97v bubble 2 I believe Maya is referring to Tetsuhito's power (since there was no ki it wasn't a gate) and is saying it feels like "she" got hit by a lump of iron. And bubble 3 pg 101, is he saying "I" don't have to use "my" powers (since Maya doesn't have any)? & bubble 4 "Not yet!!" instead of "Still?".

Hmm great chapter, anyone think maybe Aya is activating Reiki? She is using the Dragon eye and is sorta there, it seemed like OG was making Tetsuhito tell his origin to both Maya and Makiko in unison, though obviously at different times, so she was hearing Reiki in the present while watching the past. And what can Maya's tie be made out of? Cotton? And since it's "wood" couldn't she have stabbed him anywhere (not just Makiko's eye) with it? Since he's impervious to iron wouldn't wood be able to hurt him? Or is he impervious to iron and everything weaker than iron?

If Iron wouldn't hurt his body, I don't see how wood would... Anyway, she was just saying that the eye was the only part that wasn't from his body, so it wouldn't have the unusual strength lent by the iron particles...

Thanks for the translation. Loved this chapter, can't wait for the next.

Hey Maya's wood power can cut through rock as we saw in an earlier chapter. Rock=mineral=metal in the chinese 5 elements? Or would that be earth?

Yes, I think you are so right, Maya hit his eye since it is the part of his body that is not ultra strong - his Achilles heel. I'm guessing he now won't be able to use his dragons because of the loss of his eye. Maya might still lose since she has taken a lot of damage so far but I hope she wins. :D
