Hmm, I need some help here.. Would anyone be so kind as to give me directions on how exactly to use one of these "torrent" files? Thank you.

Please read what I wrote on the download sections. .torrent files are meta-data files for clients that implement the BitTorrent protocol. Go download yourself a decent client (I recommend Azureus) and start downloading.

I'd say uTorrent is more popular these days.
