Fight 136 !

Post by Strangler »

according to Heiji Sama,
the chapter is 82 pages long.

The UJ is covered by a Ten² picture, there is a mini book in with some OG drawings...

A last effort !

I didn't stick around at work long enough for my copy to make it. Should get it tomorrow. I might actually read it before translating for once.

It's out there now http://hi.baidu.com/tiexue2009/album/%C ... 2136%BB%B0

A couple of the pages seemed to not be working for me but it's mostly there. I'm kind of amused how this is another series that the "official" English release was cancelled with over 80% of the series already published. That happens more frequently than I like to actually think about.

I'm still wondering what the purpose of the 5 year leap ahead was supposed to be exactly....

Hmm not what I hope for (long epilog). After all they showed a fight between Bob and Mawari, with his daughter already 5?

Since the issue come out thurstday, I won't get my hands on the issue until next week friday... but can not wait so look into the online raws.

It was great to see that Masataka got beat up, just show the struggle to it. I am kind of sad that he lost his right hand by it. Although it just have a deep connection with chapter 135 the talk with his brother about bonds and hands. (Just figure it out that Fugu translate it, thanks.) As moon he has to fight, to be "one" to show that you can fight something that big...
In my opinion the scar on his face doesn't look good.

The confession scene got cleared up. By the gestures you can almost confirm without fail, that he got rejected. I wonder what he and she add by the end. Although a bit regrettable, I believe that Aya stay with Souchirou is a good thing. I have even come to believe that Aya is the gender counterpart of Masataka in Art and character design....

Hmm they seem to put up a bit more about the meaning of the palm and the fist greeting, though not as the moon and the sun gestures.
I wonder if Mrs. Nagi (the mother) was really in that world as well, or was it just a projection of how she would be by Kengo, reunited in the end...

I am not sure when japanese enter a regular school year, but I guess by spring? So Mawari is now a sophimore in highschool :D
But what is Isuzu doing there, she can not become a teacher that fast...

It end where it begin, Aya chasing after Souchirou to feed him....

Kind of sad, that Maya didn't survive. Even if I don't know the correct circumstances, I can not believe it was because she was keep living because of Amaterasu and with all powers cease to exist, her life as well.
Bunshichi survived and did he graduate?

I wonder now..., was it really necessary for Maya and Aya to enter the mental word of Susanoo and was all the work Masataka did at the outside meaningless giving a punch at the sword? Because it appears that the main work was done inside.
The only satisfaction idea might be Masataka reactivate Reiki with his Ki and Souchirou pulled the last punch, though I am not very satisfied with this route of story...

Let's wait for the fish's translation :D

an easy and stereotypical ending

I mean it happens in every other movie/book and all that where one character dies helping the other to stay alive. And even all so highlighted fight in b/w Masa and Nagi didn't produce that kind of impact, in fact it was far easier than the other fights shown until now

Uhhm hmm that was it? Masataka loses a hand, Maya sacrifices herself and life goes on normally? (I thought Mitsuomi was Souhaku for a second) I'm pretty underwhelmed. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. Really dissapointed with all the cameos we never got to see Ishiyumi and Shizuru (and probably others I'm forgetting).

Hmm, interesting ending that I've looked over a couple of times. I'll wait for the translation to see exactly what happened, but the end of the story seems to have 'derailed' a little from what the series was building up to. I was expecting the 5-year timeskip earlier to have meant something or hinted at something, but it seems to have been a case of 'random timeskip is random'.

I'm glad that only Maya died, but the end result seems to be that there was no resolution in the love triangle (/square?) Madoka didn't get Masataka, Masataka didn't get Aya, Aya didn't get Nagi, and Nagi didn't get Maya. Unless something appears in the translation to say otherwise doesn't appear to be any happy endings except for most of them lived in the end, save for scars and losses of limbs. Which looked rather painful

That was a terrible ending. The past year though seemed more and more Oh! Great didn't have an idea on how he wanted to end it, but he knew he wanted to move past it already. What happened to all the ppl Souichirou resurrected? Did they die again with what looked like the negation of all his powers. After all the mayhem and destruction that's happened over a thousand years, we're supposed to accept a happy, honky-dory highschool ending?!!! In the last 5 pages all the seriousness of the series was flushed down the toilet. Maya's death is a cop out. Someone needed to die to give a sense of loss and since Mitsuomi was magically cured Maya was the only option left besides Souichirou himself actually dying, which would have been awesome. It would have been satisfying to see Souichirou stomping all over everyone, before finally regaining control and sacrificing himself. But apparently his mind is as easy to walk into as a 7-11. The 5 year time skip chapter really was unnecessary, as the only thing it served to convey was that Bob won't get a job until he beats Madoka.

Man, so it finally ends?

Has the manga really been running for 12 years? I was still in high school when I first got into it!

I guess I'll wait for the translation as well. I don't really mind what kind of ending Oh! Great wants, but I do care about the execution of it. For the last chapter, I generally expect some major fight, epic enough to end up with a dramatic death no matter whose death it is.

Looks like there's a lot of mixed reactions to the way it ends, or maybe just plain negative ones. Perhaps the tankoubon will have more info, or at least I hope so.

After rereading (well looking at the pictures) it I like it more than I did initially, we all knew how it would end so it was kind of anti-climactic but it was executed well.

I hope the Tankoubon will have more pages as well. I think the execution for the fight was good enough, but feels like there could've been more, I'll wait for a translation before commenting further, there are quite a few questions I have in mind, perhaps it's in the dialogues, stuff like the future arc, where it looked as if Bob was the sole survivor (Chiaki crying and mentioning Nagi when she talks about the moon has finally cleared up), I find it a little weird.

I believe for that, Bob finally became strong enough to be the moon for Souichiro when he was full of supernatural powers and such. like if he was that strong five years ago, Nagi could've went to him instead of Masataka. Or Oh! Great had something else planned but went against it after releasing that chapter....

That's an interesting way of putting it...

But I think after the past arc with Shin, it seems fitting that Maya fully gives her life to prevent a 'repeat' of it. It just sucks that she has to go.

I haven't checked out the chapter for myself, but I'm kind of curious of how Mitsuomi reacts to her death. I wonder what he thinks of red feathers now after all of this...

Mitsuomi's almost complete absence from the final chapter was kinda odd, and Maya dying almost does make it a repeat of the past arc except neither of her "suitors" decided to die with her like Shin did. Thinking back on the past arc just what was Dougen trying to do with Shin and Mitsuomi back then as it pertains to what Souhaku was doing? Heck what was Maya doing? She didn't know she had the Ameratsu gate when things started.

Dougen wanted Mitsuomi to be the True Warrior for the Takayanagi clan, by making him fight Shin whom he manipulated into the perfect monster (a red feather with the Dragon's Eye) for him to defeat.

Souhaku thought of doing the same thing, but in reverse. To him, the True Warrior will rise in the form of 'Susanoo', so he puts into motion schemes that began centuries ago and uses his son (a red feather, with the Dragon's Fist).

The irony of course, is that the Nagi bloodline had been trying to stop Souhaku since ancient times, only for one of their own (Makiko) to join him for quite some time, and give birth to their son.

It's not exactly a repeat of the past arc. The past arc is a tragedy, which ends in the deaths of Kuzunoha and Shin, and where two people (Shin and Mitsuomi) are made to face each other to the death. In that battle, Shin couldn't be saved, and knowing that there's no longer a way back, he chooses to end it himself by commiting suicide. The result of the entire incident is the fall out between Mitsuomi's group and Maya's, with the former replacing his father and taking on a stance that isn't really altogether different.

Souhaku had plans for his son, and in the end Nagi asks Masataka to defeat him if he cannot stop himself—to break the chains of fate in other words. Maya gives her life to end this cycle, and all that regret and resentment borne of a past tragedy isn't present here; at the very least, the tragedy here isn't the same. While Maya does indeed die, her death is a heroic one, that changes fate.

In the end, I think it's Maya who truly is outside the wheel of fate. She receives help of course, but her death demonstrates this more to me. She saves these two young men who have been bound and fated to fight each other till the very end. Of course, I haven't yet read this chapter, but this is quite the impression I'm getting after reading various comments here and there.

the problem with the ending is the fact that the amount of weight that was put on the effectiveness of" the moon" in the end was heavily diminished

In so many chapters we are hearing all the time about moon, it was presented in various ways, creating a lot of impact that made the readers to anticipate something big form him. But in the end that role was paltry. In fact the role of Maya in the last chapter seem to be better

I think The Moon is explained already and by the action of Masataka, he fulfilled it, though it doesn't change the fact that the end was not what I hope for.

In the past last chapters it is explained that the Moon is someone/ something that give people hope or lead them through the darkness they face.

In 135 Mitsoumi explained that no matter what Masataka choose, the end won't change Susanoo will (probably) "explode" or decease to exist. But Masataka want to become that "moon" and be the guide of Souchirou through his darkness.

In addition in chapter 136 he become the moon for everyone who witness the fight, to prove that one without power can withstand one with power. (Although I am not sure, if there was any meaning in the fight regarding Aya and Maya, except giving hope to others.)

I am somewhat believing that the death of Maya as the Sun is more pointless, although Reiki source of power should be extinguish, the connection of it might not be seen by the fans....

What Masataka did was a simple fight and a punch which was nothing new. It was the same as before, we didn't see the result of the training. Yeah we know that now he was able to compete with sussano in speed and reflexes but that is not enough. OG should have shown something new from him. We have seen better fight than that even by Masataka. The way of presenting Masataka was very simple in teh last chapter. Even maya was shown in better ways

Disappointing ending, but not surprising since Oh Great didn't develop fully his story. Like the end of the Kabane fight, Madoka with Reiki and the red and white feather families of the feudal arc.

For me, I guess I kinda wanted a little more out of the ending especially when the story was set up much better. And I don't get the reason to revive Maya just to have her die again...... Should of just ended it when the jyuukenbu club all helped with punching reiki into souhaku............. that would of been cliche but at the very least, that ending would of been better... I guess the only thing I can take away from it is that all feather powers have been eradicated....... Started great, ended poorly....

It is not that I check it everyday, I bet the translations were already there for some time. I just notice it at that time.
Of course I respect your unbelievable translation works and naturally follow it along with the manga itself.

The story final conclusion was not great as the story itself. It isn't because the manga end, but the conclusion it reached. How Aya turned down the confession (was somewhat worst, I think there are some deeper meanings like Fate and Destiny), the death of Maya, the afterwards... It is most likely that I didn't get a lot of things, even with the translation. Sure it was a suprise to read that Kago was originally Susanoo, but it only throws more question about the origin... then it answer anything. It left with some holes and it appears to show a forced end...

You did a great job over the past 10 years, FuguTabetai. It probably might not be a job you earn money with. With thanks alone you might not even overcome crisis, but it might change your mood by a little, that you change with your actions the lifes of others even a little.

It doesn't answer anything. I feel like that the story is ending with some unanswered questions and everything appears like a forced end...

Fugu,

I just wanted to post a sincere thank you for all of your hard work on this manga from start to finish. A labor of love, no doubt. I enjoyed your personal note on the last page of the scanlated ch. 136.

I felt like I should have written more, but a few sentences was probably enough. It's been a fun ride. I'm interested in seeing the tank versions to see what Oh! Great adds as his closing note.

I am a bit disappointed in the ending. Too rushed IMHO. I haven't been following Air Gear, so I wonder how that has been going. I don't like the concept of Air Gear though, so I won't start.

I should spend more time browsing manga to find some interesting stuff, but work has been keeping me *way* too busy.

fyi, if anyone wants to read my translation, it is text only and up here: http://tjtg.mangatranslation.com/TJTG_22_Trans.html

Well Fugu as someoen who has been coming here for most of your run(wow almost 6 years time sure flies) I would personally like to thank you for sticking with this book through thick and thin and staying to the end, and however you feel about your translations I have always been grateful for them. Also as someone who tried to learn Japanese himself this book would have been more than enough to make me give up a long time ago, glad you're more persistent

And on to the final translation (darn just realized the raw was missing a page 64?) Testament I don't think Souhaku was the "original" Susanoo (not sure how you got that) he just called himself that because he had all the powers. Well Masataka giving Nagi ki with his punch makes the fight more sense now, and I know she had to but it still blows Maya had to die. A few things I don't get are if Maya's power was being amplified to negate Nagi's power while Masataka fought him how did Aya use her dragon's eye? And if Ichiyo knew how to do this all those years ago why didn't he do it himself? And who were those 2 freshman at the end? The "yo yo" ones.

The ending might not have been the greatest but it sure was a fun ride, I'd also like to thank everyone here. Getting to discuss and argue with you guys all these years sure made reading this book a lot more fun :D
