Besides TJTG... what else do you read ?

Besides TJTG... what else do you read ?
I read TJTG mainly because it has a style of it's own that appeals to me. I don't know if this is the same reason for why I read other manga, sometimes they don't have the best storylines, they may be cliched, but I generally enjoy them very much. Besides TJTG, here is some other stuff I read/have read
Bleach
GTO and spinoffs (I still have some of fugu's old work, back then he had coloured text bubbles ^_^)
GANTZ
Psychometrer Eiji (even though he has SUCH an 80's haircut)
Battle Royale
Berserk
Midori No Hibi
Yakitate Japan
Battle Angel Alita
Ghost in the Shell/Man Machine Interface
Naruto
Assorted Oh!Great works (Majin Devil I thought was excellent, despite rather short length, Himiko Den was way too short, Air Gear is ok, his H Stuff is a little twisted though, wish I could get my hands on his other non H works, heard he's got a few one shots)
Getting/Reading soon :
Monster (heard plenty of good things about this one)
VGD
Saiyuki
Kenshin
5 star stories (hopefully)
and some Dreamworks Transformers ;D
What are you guys reading ? Any recommendations ?
Oh yea Ikkitousen = Battle Vixens in English (what a dodgy name change ?) Covers look interesting (though most people have said it's totally craptastic)

Hmm, I dig weird stuff...
I ain't listin TT!
Angel Sanctuary - one of the most original and daring stories.
Stuff by Kobayashi Yoshinori, his political stuff is dope. Can't say I don't agree with him from time to time. His book on war is good.
Gensou Suikoden. Based on Suikoden 3, this baby also rocks. Lovely stuff . I love how Chris is drawn here
Hellsing - TO ENGLAND, TO ENGLAND!
Gunparade March - Ya know, its the game and the manga that rocks. The anime stink. The Doujins are cool, too!
Tsukihime Doujin - They are really FUNNY! And cute, and sad and sadestic The original virtual novel rocks, too!!
Five Star Stories - A classic. Not a manga, but the anime was a CLASSIC.
Do - Rai - Mon, this blue little earless robot cat kept much of my childhood sleepless nights peaceful and jolly.
Legend of the Intergalactic Heroes - Not a manga, but a very classic space epic novel by Tanaka Yoshiki. It will raise an eyebrow here and there, and may even be offensive to some. GO PRUSSIA!
Record of the Lodoss War - Not a manga, again, the novel is much better than the TV.
Full Metal Panic - Novel and Manga both rule. Man knows his weapons. A genius! Gotta love the pair, too, they are MEANT to be together
Gosh, so much more... can't even list them

Aww sorry to hear that Fugu

A lot of people have said the Hellsing manga > the anime, I'm slightly more interested in it now... (but then again, that is very common thing to say, IMHO they are different interpretations) But guys try keep the anime out of this ;p
TakCWAL man FSS manga rocks, Mamoru is a GENIUS. I wish the goddamn english translations would come out sooner, and not in those wafer-thin "booklets" (goddamn it)
Fugu - =/ Curious though, what kind of Computer Studies are you doing (for me, I did a lot of comp science was a lot of hack... er, programming, with some networking and web related stuff thrown in, barely had to read stuff at all.)

Well, Fusion, you really have to read Hellsing when you have the chance. Its... great!
The whole entire thing is as well drawn as TT more or less, and each scene is bound to give you an anderline rush.

Dragonball ( the little blue books, don't collect those anymore )

I read a lot of manga's out of my brother's collection as well ... He saves me the effort of spending my money
"Why ? What's it about ?"
It was a time... a time when Oh Great felt lonly, depressed, and obviously on a lot of crack.
He sat down, took up his pen, and doodled some of the most deprived fantasies an usual Japanese single-man could imagine
Speaking of which, anybody point me out to Hellsing Manga volume 5 and beyond links please? :9

Not really, there is some (short) storyline as well, it's not like guys come out of nowhere and rape a girl like normal hentai doujin.
Anyway, I read and own a lot of manga (really). There are about
18 series in my computer.
15 complete series in a bookcase.
13 series I'm buying.
I try to quit reading manga, but hell I end up buying more.

Yes, it was animated.pv82 wrote:Wasn't Junk Story made into a animated Hentai. I could have swore my friends saying they watched it.
I have it somewhere.

Yes, but the stories were utter crap. It got a bit better in Junk Story, but most of Five was just the artist crossing the deranged line of human insanity :p

I read quite a few manga right now that're still being released, Tenjo Tenge is one and currently my favorite out of all.
Other than TT I also read:
Shaman King
Naruto
One Piece
Gunnm Last Order
Bastard!!
Hunter x hunter
Katsu
Angel Heart
Angel Sanctuary (It ended a long time ago but one of my all time favorite)

Try that link, it's a torrent from 1-11 (no idea if it still active, source site : http://www.animes.tk/)
and after that you grab the rest from here http://paciv.free.fr/
Silky Whip I read before TJTG (only the half finished one with the Killer Robot - Junk Story ?, man it's so good to see his art evolve Compare it to Air Gear or TJTG girls heh) Anyway the stories were craptastic, character designs were very so-so (though his male characters look more or less the same as Big Beefy Guy - think Mitsoumi, or Skinny Psycho Punk - think Shin/Masataka)

btw, I'm thinking of ordering some of the Shura no Toki manga, since I like the anime. Anyone seen this? (not much info on the web)
I'll restrict my list to manga I've actually bought recently or will buy shortly (easier to remember ^-^)
Tenjo Tenge (only got 8-11 so far. maybe I'll get the rest the next time I go to Japan since it'd be cheaper)
Naruto, Eyeshield 21 and One Piece. I've even bought some Prince of Tennis, even though it's a sports manga (which mostly suck bad) - I like some aspects of it.
Inuyasha
Kotaro Makitooru (original + L, recently got all of Shin). Lots of nice fights and "interesting" humour.
Berserk. Lots of fighting. Rather sick at times. Some fun comic relief though (with Puck)
Gunnm New Order. Bit like Berserk in several ways (despite being set in the future). Putting #11 and #12 in bunny suits for a whole volume was a bit OTT I think though.
Beck. Best music based manga I've ever seen, easily.
Azumanga Daioh (finally got all the manga)
Gokusen (short for Gokudou no Sensei btw). The artwork's a bit basic, but I like the plot and characters.
Hellsing (waiting for my order to arrive)
Gunslinger Girl
Bastard!!
I also get some shojo manga. (if I like a series I like it, I don't care about the "genre")
Skip Beat! Hasn't been scanlated too well, but I just read the originals anyway. I really enjoy this series - rather unique main character.
Yamato Nadeshiko Shinka Henge (aka Perfect Girl Evolution). Another a-typical main character (whee!) though the art is rather basic compared to Skip Beat!
Garasu no Kamen (The Mask of Glass) Very old series, though it still hasn't finished yet *sigh*. btw, I was most amused to see this series referenced in Shin Kotaro Makitooru vol 14 (I think it was)

Gantz
Cannon God Exxaxion (which hasn't been published in SO. DAMN. LONG!)
Aa! Megamisama!
Battle Royale
Bastard!!
Air Gear
Ikkitousen
I don't really read Shin Tekken Chinmi and Shin Kotarou Makaritorou L, per se, just buy the odd volume when I have nothing else to read and have some cash to spare. Both have very nice fight scenes, though I'm not really keen on the art style.
I trawl manga stores looking for new and interesting-looking releases. Think I'm going to pick up Read Or Dream Vol. 1 to give it a try. I'm waiting to check out Battle Club, Daphne in The Brillliant Blue, and whatever else Masamune Shirow puts out.
Stateside, I've always been reading Lucifer, Planetary, Wildcats Version 3, Powers, and most of Grant Morrison's stuff. I'm still waiting for Promethea Book 5, Smax, The 49ers, and other miscellaneous Alan Moore books. And now that Mike Carey is writing Hellblazer, I'm going to go for the tradepaperbacks as well.

I take it this thread is only to be answered with manga answers then. I tend to be pessimistic about the stories and plots in manga, so with manga I'm mostly trying to find character-types I like. I'll just list some I remember / care to mention, if I don't remember, it was not worthwhile.
Berserk, I always thought the nickname of Vash from Trigun, the Humanoid Typhoon, fit Gatts a whole lot better. A whole lot of action, hate-filled revenge and testosterone, what more could one want?
Blade of the Immortal, sword action in the samurai era with no bushido hindering the way. Manji is a great no-nonsense man with a badass attitude. Too bad he's unconsciously a bit too reliant on the worms and ends up... Looking bad most of the time.
Hajime no Ippo, a boxing manga. If a boxing manga isn't full of testosterone, I don't what is, and this one has it. It's actually odd to see that a series that isn't primarily a comedy happens to be my favourite comedic series. Not that I follow it because of the comedy, it's "only" a delicious side dish. The fights and the characters are great. The series' best character is Sendo Takeshi hands down, he's great when he steps into the ring.
Lone Wolf and Cub, I haven't read much of it, but what I've read, I've liked. Have to read it in small increments though, since it starts to feel like wading through a marsh pretty quickly. Even though the small stories are great, I hope there'll be some longer "arcs".
Samurai Deeper Kyo, great stuff. My first manga anti-hero, and he's great. The sneer, the "malice", the attitude, all down pat. I actually considered (still do) buying the released volumes in Japanese (I don't read Japanese), but I'm worried I'll miss more of Kyo's egoitistical comments, which are a treat.
Scryed, it was a decent read. I'm only mentioning this because of the anime which was excellent. It doesn't take much to guess who my favourite character here is.
Vagabond, Eiji Yoshikawa's book Musashi in manga form. Good solid manga, slow moving though. Inshun's case took three volumes, which is just too much. The author also takes liberties with the story and characters (for storytelling and popular appeal purposes, I understand that) and I ill like them.
Any recommendations for comics / manga with "badass" characters or antiheroes? I've been thinking of "The Watchmen" by Alan Moore at least... If you do have, private message me, no need to derail this.

People really need to read
12 kingdoms
Legend of the Intergalactic Heroes.
These two novels are some of the best written pieces of work. Its something that finally do not dwell on the concept of romanticism.

the anime always lack some certain detail found on the novel. I am quite please with the story/plot and attention to detail with the anime version, though. Others, like the Legend of Intergalactic Heroes and Banner of the Stars/Crest of the Stars are all faithful adaptations of the original thing.FuguTabetai wrote:I caught some of the 12 Kingdoms anime while I was in Japan.
