Japanese alphabets

You can talk about random stuff here - for example, Yui Toshiki's Kagome Kagome, or just other random stuff.

One quick question.
There are three j-alphabets.

How many ideograms make up each one??
I'm arguing with some dumbasses on another forum and I'd like to wast'em all with inforamtion from some people who (unlike me) have some decent knowledge about japanese :)

Katakana: about 46 (http://members.aol.com/writejapan/katakana/kana.htm) doesn't list some archaic characters

Hiragana: about 48 (http://www.genki-online.com/kyozai/hiragana.html) doesn't list some archaic characters.

Kanji: about 2000 important characters, about 30,000 (or as many characters as exists in Chinese) total characters.
