How about 'Air Gear' by the same author?
Less serious storyline and more gratuitous (semi) nudity scenes than TJTG.
Character designs are quite refined and the artwork is awesome.

My only problem with the title is that the story's kinda cheezy.
It's a typical "beat bad guy -> a new stronger previously unknown bad guy appears -> main character work ass off and beat the new bad guy -> yet another stronger previously unknown bad guy appears -> ad infinitum" style perfected by DragonBall.

Any idea where to get the scanlations? If there exist any, that is.

Yeah, Air Gear definitely has a more refined art style. It even looks smoother than Tenjo Tenge's sometimes, and that's something considering that Air Gear tends to have a more "street punkish" look to it.

would the mangatranslation group consider air gear for their new project because you hardly see snoopycool releasing air gear anymore.

First of all, this isn't a group, it's just me.

Second, that is a horrible reason to start translating something: there is already a group working on it! I definitely wouldn't be any faster than Snoopycool.

I do wish I had some interesting stuff to translate (oh Vulgar Ghost Daydream volume 7, where are you?) but I've already stated my non-interest in Air Gear when it first came out.

Yeah, but anyways they don't have direct downloads on the site for Air Gear, and neither BTs if I recall correctly. The fastest and possibly only way to get it is through their irc channel

I was always talking about Air gear, I get the other releases through Bt too. I think I saw a news once where they were saying AG would be released only through Irc, but sure, obviously I could be wrong :P

Air Gear is a Kodansha product so there are no links to it on their site.

Snoopycool got a letter from Kodanshya requesting that he take down all Kodanshya related stuff from his website. It was a big deal over on the manganews.net forums a while back. You know, big evil lawyers coming out after hobbyists.

I actually got a nice email from TokyoPop a few months before they started translating Great Teacher Onidzuka, one of the guys said that he was a fan, and was going to send me a GTO volume 1 when they were done with it. (Oh, and of course, please remove all your scans.) The GTO volume never did show up, but that's cool.

that stupid. I can understand if they told them to take it off because it's licensed but if it's not I would tell them to fuck off.

Umm... Kodansha is the legal owner of manga distribution rights. As in... worldwide. So it is licenced, and always was.

WHo knows, maybe DC will send you a copy of TT free. I do think you deserve it, seeing as this site and Anime are the main reasons why I see it being this popular.

Media Factory has sent the same kinda request for thier anime. FanSubbing might be over in the near future.

I have all of the AirGear tankoubons, and i don't really know why I care. It's such a waste of money.

It's like Oh!Great took all of TJTG ecchiness, multiplied it by 10 and then added a halfassed excuse for a story, maily cenetered on his obsession with rollerblading.

It's lame... TJTG is not great because it has boobs. It's great because it has such a wonderful story AND boobs. AirGear, in comparison, is a total waste of time and money.

hey MrProphet, you never know... Air Gear could just have an insanely slow start until something "WOW" happens. I'm still enjoying it, if anything it's a lot more relaxed and an easy fun read.

Plus Ikki is a lot more lovable to me than Nagi ever was.

While I don't think that AG is a complete waste of money, if does seem to be getting really draggy. The fight with Behemoth is taking forever, and is not even cool to start of with. Overreliance on macho-posturing and cool poses instead of developing good fights with creative techniques tend to get me down. But the last story-arc I really enjoyed though (the one with the guy in the wheelchair). It had some good character development.

The 'mythology' part has only just been introduced. Character development is still happening, though slowly, while the babe quotient is way down.

I'm still hanging on to this, though I may quit if things don't pick up in the next couple of volumes.

I was wondering how many volumes of AG are out there right now. It seems to me that AG tankoubons are being churned out in a faster pace than TJTG.
