Great news! Thanks, Maya. Any information on DVD's videolength?

I know, OVAs are usually one episode per DVD, but I wonder how long it will be and what they are planning to animate.

Yes thanks Natsume

Yeah, with OVAs they have the freedom to release one episode every 3 or 4 months, on the good side the Animation is usually way better than the TV series and the length is sometimes longer than 20min.

This is great news! Since it's an OVA, I hope the animation will be better this time around.

Or how long we'll have to wait before the next episode is available... :(

Usually they release one DVD per 4-6 months. Depends on how they are planning the quality.

Stuff like Tenchi Muyo or Macross Zero get released every 6 months.

Hentai OVA's are usually 3-4 months in between, but you can guess the quality. 8)

Neither does it have the same financial and fandom backing as Tenchi Muyo!

If Madhouse outsourced all of TenTen animation to Korea, as it seems from the credits, I kinda doubt that they are putting big bucks into it.

Not all of it was outsourced overseas. TenTen seems to have been a mix of staff in Japan and Korea. The first episodes were animated in Korea, some later episodes in Japan, etc. Also I think Madhouse is a production company that tends to outsource a lot. For example, a lot of the inbetweening and backgrounds (among other things) for Paranoia Agent, another Madhouse work, was also outsourced to Dr Movie (a Korean production company). TenTen seems to have a bit more than usual, though, but perhaps this will be a trend with Madhouse.

Yeah, Madhouse probably had their own genga studio do all the key animation, and then outsourced the douga to some korean company.

The Ultimate Fight DVD will contain two episodes. See here for more details:
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=AVBA-22275

Back to the present time. The 12 Families make their appearance. I've only seen a few small promotional pics: Aya in her kenjutsu outfit (hopefully they'll animate the fight between Maya and Aya), and a few other scenes of what I expect will be Nagi opening the Dragon's Gate/chakra (eg Dougen and Makiko, Nagi with black hair etc).

With TenTen, even the genga was done by a Korean company at times.

I really don't know why they're bothering with this at all (aside from trying to squeeze every single drop of blood from the fans). If you're going to animate the story, do a decent job, instead of a half-assed 2 episode stunt that can't possibly do the complex story any justice.

The original news on the OVA suggested that there would be more than one volume. It's just the Ultimate Fight OVA volume that'll be two episodes, not necessarily the entire OVA series. But how much more there'll be, and how closely (or otherwise) the OVA follows the manga, we'll have to wait and see.

Can you, by any chance, scan this promotional material and let us see it? If it's not too much a trouble. 8)

BTW, what journal is it? NewType, Animage?

Well, I've put up a couple of pics from the December issue of Ultrajump:
Aya challenges Maya
Maya reads Oh!great
Both appear to be scenes from Fight 49 of the manga. The scans aren't great. Sorry, I rushed the scanning...

As for the other pics I've seen. They were on a pic of a flyer which I came somewhere on the net (sorry, I've forgotten where I came across it). But the pics seemed to be the final Fight in volume 8 of the manga.

hmm no chance for OVA nudity from that part of the manga but at least we'll get a great fight animated in OVA quality, and maybe even the Ishiyumi fight if they decide to introduce F.

It's kinda weird that they are going with the Maya/Aya fight on the rooftop, since they've already kissed and made up in the anime version.

Unless they are totally ditching the anime's ending, which sounds even more moronic.

Oh, I guess we'll wait and see.

Thanks, Natsume. 8)

Another promotional image for Ultimate Fight:
http://ultra.shueisha.co.jp/UJ98/HotNew ... timate.jpg
Perhaps it'll be the cover for the DVD...? Nice pic, though.

On the other hand, the news page on the Ultrajump website has updated. And whereas previously the text suggested (to me, anyway) that there may be more than one volume to the OVA, the text has now been changed and reformatted, so I wonder if there may not be just the one volume for the OVA...? Again, we'll have to wait and see.

So, I guess it'll be one episode for the Maya/Aya fight and the second episode for Nagi's training and perhaps a bit of Ishiyumi.

Let's hope.

OR, they may butcher the storyline even more and somehow mangle it all together. 8)

Avexmode website has a picture of the cover of the Ultimate Fight OVA.

http://avexmode.jp/animation/tenten/syohin.html

Judging by it, we're gonna see the later half of volume 8 (ch 49-51) animated.

On the downside part of news, it seems like the Past Arc digest DVD is gonna get delayed till late March. Whoever cares about it... sorry...

Anyway, can't wait for the OVA, too bad it's not gonna resolve anything (on the contrary, the lack of clarity on Nagi's Supersaiyan thing is going to drive lots of people nuts, I am guessing. ).

Also, the convers for the TV-series DVD's a just KICKASS. Too bad the covers are the best thing about this series. :?

Yep. I gave these a try.

Makenai (OVA ed) is pretty good. Still very newbie-ish, but way better than the horrid "Aishiteru Motto". 8)

Character songs are ok.

Nagi's and Bob's seiyuu sing two songs and they are rather whateverish. Sounds like a bunch of VA's got together to sing karaoke. 8)

Hisakawa Aya rules... So does Seki Tomokazu. Love both of their voices. 8)

d/led the OVA ED one, and I pretty much agree with MrProphet about that. Not bad, improvement over the TV ED but still "eh"

Surprised to hear that Nagi and Bob's character songs aren't good. I would thought they would sound decent considering who their seiyuus are :?

currently d/ling Aya and Masataka's, should be okay I hope. I fear though thinking what type of music the two seiyuus will be singing too

edit: I'm surprised. Didn't think Seki Tomokazu could actually sing decently. Hisakawa Aya was pretty good too!

edit^2: better than upping my post count. Anyway, listening to the CD drama on the Aya & Masataka one. Man, listening to seiyuu in their normal voices... DAMN. So different (well, Aya's & Chiaki's VAs sound EXACTLY the same as their character voice). Tomokazu Seki is pretty hilarious in his little bit. Souichirou Hoshi sounds a bit annoying, but somewhat passable. Shinichirou Miki's voice is FRICKIN' DEEP! I didn't think that's how he talks normally considering the various roles I've heard him in. Whoa. Aya Hisakawa I've heard normally (and was surprised at the time), so nothing too surprisedly. Interesting how she talks normally but when she breaks into an story, you can hear the various pitches and tones she uses in her other roles.

BTW, the drama on the CD was sorta a continuation of the Nagi and Masataka fight in the lunch room ;) They go all "deep" and talk about strength and stuff... but yea.

Snap! Literal end has Aya Hisakawa talk about Tenjo Tenge and stuff. Pretty cool when she switched from chibi-maya to ultra-sexy-sound-maya in the beginning! <3

From the Little Harlock Newslog (http://lh.children-of-no-return.net/):
18.02.2005
Oh! Great News & Studio Madhouse News:
- Avex Mode´s Official site for Tenjô Tenge had an update regarding the
upcoming release of the Tenjô Tenge SPECIAL DVD and the OVA ULTIMATE FIGHT.
First of all, let´s start with some content details for the SPECIAL DVD.

Tenjô Tenge - SPECIAL DVD ~ THE PAST CHAPTER
Content:
• Part-1: Tenjô Tenge Special-ban - THE PAST CHAPTER
• Part-2: Character Song Music Clip Collection
- 1. "Honnô no Kokyû" by Nagi Sôichirô (seiyuu: Sôichirô Hoshi)
- 2. "Seize the CHANCE" by Natsume Maya (seiyuu: Aya Hisakawa)
- 3. "Kuzu Fuji" by Masataka Takayanagi (seiyuu: Seki Tomokazu)
- 4. "Get up! Stand up!" by Bob Makiharra (seiyuu: Miki Shinichirô)
- 5. "by your side" by Chiaki Kônoike (seiyuu: Ryoko Shiraishi)
- 6. "Makenai" by Natsume Aya (seiyuu: Chihara Minori)
• Part-3: Tenjô Tenge Jacket Image Gallery
• EXTRA BONUS: Tenjô Tenge OP&ED Collection
- OP "Bomb A Head! V"
- ED "Aishitene Motto"
- ED "Aishitene Motto" FIGHT.24 (TV Version)
- OVA ULTIMATE FIGHT ED "Makenai ~ Itto Version"

The cover for the SPECIAL DVD as well as for the ULTIMATE FIGHT OVA
(the front featuring Takayanagi, the back featuring Aya) can be seen at
the Avex site I linked to earlier this entry.
For release details on the ULTIMATE FIGHT DVD see my 2005/01/29 entry,
for (updated) release details on the SPECIAL DVD, see my 2005/02/06 entry.

- Sky Perfect´s Perfect Choice already broadcasts the Tenjô Tenge TV
anime adaption (by Madhouse) as well (the original TV station for Tenjô
Tenge TV was TV Asashi) in two parts (episode 1-12 and starting on
2005/02/25 the remaining episodes will also be broadcasted).
I already wrote about this bit of news in my 2004/12/26 entry.
However Perfect Choice now has something up on their broadcast
schedule that will be interesting to those fans that already watched
the TV series and are looking forward to the OVA.
Starting on March 4th 2005, Perfect Choice will broadcast both episodes
of the ULTIMATE FIGHT OVA.
PC already created a site for the OVA, which can be found and
which has some nice screenshots from the OVA itself (the pic of reading
Maya and Aya in front of the blackboard already have been released with
an Ultra Jump Tenjô Tenge ad btw.).
This site also confirms that Studio Madhouse will be responsible for
the OVA´s production (not that it wasn´t really obvious but anyway ^_^).
The OVA will be re-broadcasted afterwards untill 10th March at least.

- Btw. the March release schedule by Shueisha got a little updated,
and the title for the Tenjô Tenge Animation book I referred to in my
2005/02/06 entry now is titled Tenjô Tenge - Animation THE GREAT!

damn thats like a bite in the butt. Guess I'll wait for a subtitle version tho I really want the cool special edition stuff that comes with the ultimate fight, especially that dvd cover and boxes. Those are just gourgeous. I just noticed something. on the ultimate fight dvd cover he has the dragon fist on his left arm but on the dvd boxes, he has it on the right arm. In the manga was he able to use it on both arms or was the dragon fist only utilized through the right arm? :? I forgot....

he probably can use it on both arms but in the manga so far, he's only used the dragon fist on his right arm. just reread the manga and yea, right arm was the only one used in the battles.

Just a word of warning:

The Ultimate Fight DVD (as most other anime DVDs from Japan) costs 5800 yen. Unless you are prepared to pay US$30 per half-hour episode, you might want to wait for a Geneon release.

Understanding it is not that difficult, I believe, since we already have Fugu's translations. But I'm really not interested in paying US$35 for one episode. :x :x
